Dr. Thelma Teresa Spears graduated from Meharry Medical College with a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery. Dr. Spears completed her residency at the University of Alabama Department of Veterans' Affairs in Birmingham, Alabama. She is a native of Nashville, Tennessee.
