Services

Chickering 1923 - 9 footAt the piano shop, we offer a wide range of services from in-home tuning and repairs and concert-performance tuning to complete rebuilding and refinishing. Many of my customers enjoy visiting the shop to see the process of grandma's old piano being transformed into a beautiful instrument and family heirloom.

Usual rebuilds include all soundboard and bridge repairs, plate or harp rebronzing, pin block replacement, new tuning pins and custom hand wound strings, hammers are reshaped or replaced along with shanks and flanges, and all new keybed felt. Ivory keys are repaired and hand polished, old keys are replaced with ivorine key tops. Refinishing of the cabinet is with hand rubbed lacquer finish along with all decals and cabinet felt. We will work hand in hand with you concerning the stain shades and type of finish you prefer along with every option of the rebuild based on the quality of the instrument and your performance level.

Most of the pianos that we rebuild are from the 1900's to mid 1920's which was the epitome of American craftsmanship. The inherent quality of these instruments will never be equaled. The old world growth of the woods that were used and the hand built approach of these pianos is simply unaffordable in today's market.

We also have a fine selection of rebuilt vintage pianos for sale. Unlike some shops who feel like they must have something for sale on the floor at all times, we are much more selective in the pianos we choose to rebuild for sale. You will never find any spinet or cheap small vertical pianos for sale nor will we offer any grand piano under 5 foot, they just don't meet our standards of quality. Please view our current selection of vintage pianos for sale.

If you have any questions concerning piano prices or rebuilding fees, feel free to contact us by phone or email.
