Attorney Brian C. Toundas represents clients in a wide variety of criminal and civil litigation. Mr. Toundas has extensive experience with matters arising under the criminal statutes of the State of Florida including allegations of DUI, Reckless Driving, Driving on a Suspended License, Fraud, Theft, Drug and Trafficking Offenses, Sex Crimes, and White Collar Crime, including Money Laundering and Investor Fraud.
Mr. Toundas also represents clients in complex civil litigation in state courts, with a special focus on matters involving the best interests of children. He represents mothers and fathers in dependency cases brought by the Department of Children and Families, and initiates paternity actions on behalf of mothers and fathers whose children were born out of wedlock. Issues of custody, shared parental responsibility, child support, and visitation are vigorously investigated in order to pursue the best possible outcome under the circumstances for the both the parent and minor child.
In addition, Mr. Toundas represents clients in complex matters involving real estate and deed irregularities, counsels and assists clients with the preparation of small claims lawsuits and document preparation for Pro Se Divorce proceedings, and prepares wills, trusts, and other family planning documents including Living Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney, Designation of Health Care Surrogate, Designation of Pre-Need Guardian for Minor Children or Adults, and HIPAA Medical Record Releases.
Before entering private practice in 2003, Mr. Toundas proudly served for more than three and half years as an Assistant Public Defender for the Eighth Judicial Circuit of Florida. During his tenure there, he served as lead counsel in hundreds of felony and misdemeanor cases, trained new attorneys, and supervised Certified Legal Interns during their representation of indigent clients.
Mr. Toundas received his B.S.B.A. degree with honors in May 1996 from the University of Florida, where he was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society and officer of Kappa Alpha. He earned his Juris Doctor in May 2000 from the University of Florida School of Law and studied White Collar Crime and the French Civil Code at the Université de Montpellier in France, one of the oldest universities in Europe. He is a member of the Florida Bar and is currently expanding his practice into federal courts.
Prior to entering the University of Florida, Mr. Toundas was on active duty in the United States Army. As a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Specialist, Mr. Toundas was part of the first deployment of soldiers to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield. He was immediately assigned to the front lines to support and train tactically placed Multiple Launching Rocket System (MLRS) Units. When Operation Desert Storm commenced, Mr. Toundas and his unit spearheaded the dismantling of the Republican National Guard. He is now a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Mr. Toundas draws from both his extensive military and life experience in his practice of law knowing that it is an invaluable refuge for both himself and his clients when dealing with the high stress adversarial system of our modern courts.
